Lazio captain Stefano Mauri handed six-month ban

After being found guilty of failing to report match-fixing, Lazio’s captain Stefano Mauri has been handed a six-month ban.

Stefano Mauri was implicated in Lazio's fixed games against Genoa and Lecce two years ago, though has only been found guilty of failing to report the match-fixing in the game against Lecce. The 33-year-old -- who made 26 Serie A appearances last season -- is set to be sidelined for the next six months, though has announced he will appeal the ban handed down by the FIGC.

Omar Milanetto, Massimiliano Benassi and Antonio Rosati also faced punishment for supposed involvement, but all have been acquitted. However, Alessandro Zamperini has been given a two-year ban, while Stefano Ferrario, Mario Cassano and Carlo Gervasoni have been handed six, four and two-month penalties respectively.

Lazio have escaped a points deduction, though have been fined €40,000. Meanwhile Lecce -- who are currently playing in Italy’s third tier after being relegated from Serie B for involvement in the Calcioscommesse scandal -- will be forced to pay a €20,000 fine.
