An ugly match with three red cards ended with Hannover grabbing a 2-1 win over Schalke to give them six points after their first two matches and send Schalke reeling with a huge match coming up in a few days.

Hannover picked up huge 2-1 win over Schalke in a match marred by three red cards.
The ugly start to Schalke’s season continued early in the match due to another defensive mix-up. Benedikt Höwedes and Joel Matip were split by Mame Diouf, and Höwedes brought him down. The referee whistled for a penalty, and Höwedes was shown a red card. Szabolcs Huszti converted the penalty from the spot to give Hannover the 1-0 lead in the 15th minute.
Hannover pushed forward in attack looking for another quick goal with the man advantage. Diouf made it 2-0 just before halftime when he headed home Huszti’s cross. Diouf has been linked with a move away from Hannover this summer, but it would be huge for them if they can keep him.
Adam Szalai pulled a goal back for Schalke in the 55th minute. Just a few minutes later, he should’ve scored the equalizer, but his shot after a pass from Julian Draxler was off target.
Schalke received a lifeline in the 74th minute when Huszti was shown a straight red card. However, Die Königsblauen refused to allow Hannover to have an equal number of red cards, so Christian Fuchs was sent off for his second yellow card only five minutes later.
Hannover are sitting pretty comfortable with their second win of the season, while Schalke will be wondering what went wrong once again. One point after three matches isn’t good. Tuesday, Schalke will travel to Greece for the second leg of their Champions League qualifier against PAOK. They have to figure out some way to win. Anything other than a win at this point is unacceptable.
