Nottingham Forest 4-0 West Ham United: Forest crush hopeless Hammers

West Ham United offered next to no resistance as they were blown away by Nottingham Forest in the early FA Cup clash.

West Ham United's woes continued as they were sent crashing out of the FA Cup after a heavy defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Billy Davies’ men may be in the division below, but they looked twice the side of the Hammers on the day as they eased to a well-deserved 4-0 win.

The hosts put pressure on their opponents early, and youngster George Moncur was guilty of a rash challenge to give away a penalty as he tried and failed to cope with the trickery of Jamie Paterson. Djamel Abdoun stepped up to take the penalty and impudently chipped the keeper to put Forest into the lead.

West Ham weren't far away from equalising when Ravel Morrison struck a fine free-kick towards goal, but Karl Darlow was able to tip over. Forest should have added to their lead in the first half, but Eric Lichaj could not convert from close range after Adrian charged out of his goal to deny the American.

West Ham failed to regroup at half-time, and it wasn't too long before Forest found a second, Paterson finishing smartly after good work from Greg Halford to make it 2-0 to the hosts. And within minutes, Paterson had made it two, finishing from Henri Lansbury's pass to give the Hammers little hope of a comeback.

As the game drew towards a close, Paterson completed his comeback with some fine work to create some space for himself before lashing home past the hapless Adrian, and the 4-0 scoreline could not be said to be an unfair reflection of the game.

In the last minute, it was the excellent Andy Reid’s turn to complete the scoring, taking Abdoun’s pass in his stride and arrowing a fine effort into the top corner to complete the misery for West Ham. Avoiding relegation may well be the priority for Sam Allardyce’s men, but a humiliating defeat like today is probably not going to help them much.

Goals: Abdoun 12’ (pen), Paterson 65’, 71’, 79’, Reid 90+1’
