Liverpool rest Steven Gerrard, Raheem Sterling while Gareth Bale sits for Real Madrid

Brendan Rodgers has heavily rotated his Liverpool team for their Champions League clash away at Real Madrid.

Brendan Rodgers has elected to heavily rotate his Liverpool team for their Champions League clash away at Real Madrid today.

Regular first-teamers Raheem Sterling, Mario Balotelli, Steven Gerrard, Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson all drop to the bench for the Reds, in a lineup that suggests manager Brendan Rodgers doesn't like his side's chances of picking up a result at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The good news for Liverpool is that Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has left Gareth Bale out of his side's starting lineup, though Cristiano Ronaldo does play, with Isco, James Rodríguez and Karim Benzema completing a fierce-looking Merengues front line.

Real Madrid starting lineup (4-2-3-1): Iker Casillas; Marcelo, Sergio Ramos, Raphaël Varane, Álvaro Arbeloa; Toni Kroos, Luka Modrić; Cristiano Ronaldo, Isco, James Rodríguez; Karim Benzema.

Liverpool starting lineup (4-3-1-2): Simon Mignolet; Alberto Moreno, Martin Skrtel, Kolo Touré, Javier Manquillo; Joe Allen, Emre Can, Lucas; Adam Lallana; Fabio Borini, Lazar Marković.
