Jesé Rodriguez injury: Madrid striker leaves Schalke match early with a knee issue

Jesé was injured in the second minute of Real Madrid’s Champions League Round of 16 second leg against Schalke 04.

Real Madrid striker Jesé Rodriguez was stretched off after only two minutes against Schalke 04 on Tuesday after injuring his right knee.

The 21-year-old went down after taking a shoulder charge in the back from Schalke defender Saed Kolasinac. As Jesé fell, Kolasinac lost his balance and landed on the striker’s knee with his full body weight. Jesé was in immediate pain, shouting loudly and pounding the grass several times as medical staff ran on to the pitch.

After several minutes on the ground, Jesé was stretched off to the sideline where he tried to walk around, but was forced to sit back down after a few steps. Medical personnel stretched him off into the locker room and Gareth Bale took his place in the match.

Real Madrid are suddenly a little thin up front with Jesé now hurt and Karim Benzema dealing with a thigh injury. Los Blancos have a date with Barcelona on Sunday, in a match that will go a long way toward helping decide this year's champion in La Liga.

Jesé has made 30 appearances in all competitions this season for Madrid, scoring eight goals.
