Mario Balotelli signs for Liverpool

Liverpool have their Luis Suarez replacement, and he should be just as entertaining for non-footballing reasons as his predecessor. The Merseyside club confirmed on Monday that Mario Balotelli has signed on for three years, with an option for a fourth, with the fee rumored to be in the neighborhood of £16m. They told everyone with fake breaking news banners on a tweet for no good reason.

As the club notes in their tweet, Balotelli is the ninth player Liverpool have signed this summer. As much as Brendan Rodgers and figures strongly linked to the club have noted that they will not be Tottenham Hotspur, they're following the exact same model Spurs did after selling Gareth Bale, selling one superstar and buying a lot of very good complimentary players.

Balotelli isn't exactly like Suarez, but there's no reason to believe that his skills can't mesh well with Daniel Sturridge in a partnership. Liverpool fans now have to hope that the environment and coaching staff at the club are what Balotelli needs to make the most out of his talent and avoid the personal issues that plagued his career at Manchester City and AC Milan.
