Queens Park Rangers sign goalkeeper Alex McCarthy to a four-year contract
The 24-year-old England U-21 goalkeeper leaves Reading after seven years with the Royals.
QPR head coach Harry Redknapp told the club’s website he was excited about bringing McCarthy to London.
“I am delighted to bring Alex in. He’s a great young goalkeeper with a great future in front of him. I think he’s got the potential to be a future England goalkeeper one day, so to have him here at QPR is fantastic.”
“We’ve got Rob Green and Brian Murphy, and Alex’s arrival here helps to further strengthen the goalkeeping department.”
McCarthy began his professional career with Reading in 2007 at the age of 18 and made his debut for the club February 19th, 2011. Most of his Reading career was spent away from the club as the 24-year-old had eight loan stints over a five year period.
There had been reports that Liverpool were attempting to sign McCarthy at the last minute, but they were unable to get a deal done.
