Since AC Milan were nice enough to take the rest of Fernando Torres' contract off Chelsea's hands, the Blues figured they might as well do them a favor. In return for the relief of that financial burden, Chelsea are about to send Marco Van Ginkel on loan to the Rossoneri. On Sunday, Milan announced that Van Ginkel had arrived in Italy, and then they went on to confirm the deal on Instagram.
Marco Van Ginkel moving to AC Milan on loan
Chelsea are sending Marco Van Ginkel to Milan to get some playing time.
Van Ginkel was expected to work his way into Chelsea’s first team after arriving from Vitesse, but his progress has been seriously halted by a torn ACL suffered last September. He’s in need of playing time somewhere else to get himself back up to the level Chelsea expect, and Milan’s probably a good place for him.
Milan are a bit short on attacking midfielders, and Van Ginkel can play both behind the strikers and in a double pivot, if absolutely necessary. He's more of an advanced playmaker than Riccardo Montolivo and more of an actual midfielder than Keisuke Honda, so he should get plenty of opportunities to provide something different to Milan.
