Manchester United sign Daley Blind from Ajax

Louis van Gaal has the Dutchman he wanted.

Manchester United have wrapped up their long-expected deal for Daley Blind. The Red Devils confirmed they had agreed to a deal with Ajax for Blind on Saturday, but they still had to finalize personal terms and the player had to pass a medical. Now that has been done and the Dutchman is officially a Manchester United player.

Blind played for Louis van Gaal at the World Cup, where he bounced between center back, wingback and midfield to great effect. His versatility was key to the Dutch’s run to the semifinals and it was clear why van Gaal was so keen on the 24-year-old. Not long after the tournament, the rumors started that van Gaal would try to sign Blind at Manchester United and now he has done it.

With Manchester United looking to remake their squad and van Gaal’s tactical flexibility, having a player capable of playing multiple positions is a huge luxury. They can sign players, change the team, alter the way they play and no matter how it comes out, there will be a position that he can play.

Manchester United's spending this summer was already over £100 million and, along with the securing of Radamel Falcao, they are just pushing it forward. The club said they would give van Gaal the money he wanted to remake the squad and it's abundantly clear that they are doing that, with Blind and Falcao the latest examples.
