Crystal Palace add striker depth with Kevin Doyle loan

If the price is right, why not?

Crystal Palace added some last-minute desperation striker depth, signing Irish international Kevin Doyle on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers until January.

Doyle was an excellent player in his prime, but he hasn’t played at a high level for a very long time. He put together four very good seasons with Reading and was also effective in his first season at Wolves, but he’s struggled since the spring of 2010 at Premier League, Championship and even League One level.

Last season, Doyle wasn't terribly effective for Wolves before going on loan to Queens Park Rangers, where he scored just twice in 13 appearances. But, if Doyle can somehow find his form from the 2009-10 season and prior, he'll be a nice addition for Palace. It is, however, tough to figure out why Palace would opt to sign him and offload Glenn Murray, who has been an excellent player much more recently than Doyle.
