Arjen Robben injury: Bayern player removed after apparently tweaking hamstring

The substitution appears to be precautionary.

Arjen Robben's day ended after just 19 minutes as he was substituted off during Bayern Munich's Champions League Round of 16 match against Shakhtar Donetsk. The move seems largely precautionary after Robben appeared to grab his hamstring after a particularly wild and off-balance shot on the edge of the penalty area.

With plenty of games ahead, and Bayern leading 1-0 with a man advantage, Pep Guardiola determined it wasn't worth risking Robben worsening whatever injury he might have picked up. The 24-year-old Sebastian Rode took the Dutch midfielder's place on the pitch.

Bayern and Shakhtar were scoreless after the first leg, but a penalty in the third minute allowed the Germans to take the lead after Olexandr Kucher brought down Mario Götze, earning the Shakhtar defender a straight red card for his troubles. Thomas Müller converted the penalty, giving the Germans a 1-0 lead on the day and a 1-0 lead in the aggregate score as well.
