USWNT gets bailed out twice as they avoid red and Germany misses penalty
Breathe.
The United States women just got bailed out big time -- twice. First, the referee gave a penalty to Germany for this foul by Julie Johnston, and correctly so. However, Johnston was lucky to only see a yellow card. This is pretty clearly denial of a clear goal-scoring opportunity, and should have been a straight red card.
Celia Šašić, one of the best finishers on earth, stepped up to the spot for Germany and inexplicably missed wide.
Two bullets dodged for the USWNT in one play.
