Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid: Time, TV schedule for Champions League

Two Champions League giants clash in Munich on Wednesday.

The Champions League favourites host the title holders in Wednesday’s quarterfinal first leg at the Allianz Arena. Bayern Munich emerged as the bookies’ pick after they mauled Arsenal home and away in the first knockout round, and they’ll look to deliver a knockout blow at home to Real Madrid when Zinedine Zidane’s side visit in midweek.

The Bavarians have failed to win only thrice since November, with the most recent defeat coming away at Hoffenheim earlier this month. They’re comfortably clear at the top of the Bundesliga table, and their 4-1 win at home to Borussia Dortmund on the weekend showed that Carlo Ancelotti’s side are suffering no ill-effects.

However, count Madrid out at your peril. Last year’s Champions League winners may have not played their most sparkling football in recent months, but they’re still on course to win the Spanish domestic title for the first time in five years. They’ve lifted the European Cup more times than anyone else, and should prove more than capable opponents for Bayern.

Bayern Munich will certainly be without Mats Hummels, while Manuel Neuer, Douglas Costa and Thomas Müller all face late fitness tests. Philipp Lahm should retake his place at right-back after missing the last European fixture through suspension. Real Madrid will be without a trio of defenders: Raphaël Varane, Pepe and Fábio Coentrão are all injured, though Zidane will otherwise have a full-strength team available.
