Bayern Munich vs. Real Madrid lineups: Robert Lewandowski misses Champions League quarterfinal

Bayern Munich are going to have to figure out how to beat Real Madrid without their top striker on the team.

It’s time for a clash of the heavyweights in the Champions League quarterfinal round, with Bayern Munich hosting Real Madrid in a massive match. But Bayern are going into this match without a major part of their squad, and that’s going to make things trickier than Carlo Ancelotti wanted them to be.

Bayern will be without Robert Lewandowski, who suffered a shoulder injury this past weekend against his old team Borussia Dortmund. That’s forced Bayern to go back to an old standby reserve tactic by putting Thomas Muller up top as a false nine and building as strong a midfield as they can behind him to create opportunities with the dynamic duo of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery on the wings.

Madrid aren’t at full health themselves, with two key parts of their center back rotation out, thanks to injuries to Pepe and Raphael Varane. That’s forced Nacho into the lineup, with Zinedine Zidane hoping that he can put in a much better showing than he did coming off the bench this past weekend. If he doesn’t, Real Madrid could be in a lot of trouble.

Bayern Munich: Manuel Neuer; Philipp Lahm, Javi Martinez, Jerome Boateng, David Alaba; Xabi Alonso, Arturo Vidal, Thiago Alcantara; Arjen Robben, Thomas Muller, Franck Ribery

Real Madrid: Keylor Navas; Dani Carvajal, Nacho, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo; Luka Modric, Casemiro, Toni Kroos; Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Cristiano Ronaldo
