With the No. 1 ranking up for grabs in Istanbul, three of this year’s grand slam championships take the court in the year-end WTA Championships. The elite eight include Caroline Wozniacki, Maria Sharapova, Li Na and Victoria Azarenka.
Caroline Wozniacki No. 1 Ranking Not Safe In Elite Eight Of WTA Championships


Current world No. 1 Wozniacki will need to fend off Sharapova, Azarenka and Petra Kvitova for the top spot in women’s tennis.
At the start of the WTA Championships the point totals are Wozniacki (7115), Sharapova (6370), Kvitova (5870) and Azarenka (5630). Players earn 70 points for playing in a match and 160 additional points for a victory.
The eight women were split into two round robin groups and begin play Tuesday. Besides the top ranking, $4.9-million is up for grabs.
The two round robin groups (white and red) are as follows
RED GROUP: Caroline Wozniacki, Petra Kvitova, Vera Zvonareva,Agnieszka Radwanska
WHITE GROUP: Maria Sharapova, Victoria Azarenka, Li Na, Samantha Stosur
Li Na made history with her selection to the year-end finale, becoming the first Chinese player to qualify for the Championship tournament.
