Both Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray had an easy time in their matches on Thursday at the Japan Open, beating their respective opponents in just two sets.
Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray Into Quarters Of Japan Open
The Japan Open, a 32-player tournament, is led by top-seeded Nadal. Five seeds remain in the tournament, including No. 4-seeded Mardy Fish and No. 7-seeded Radek Stepanek.
World No. 2 Nadal uprooted Milos Raonic, 7-5, 6-3. Nadal, the tournament’s defending champion, will face Colombia’s Santiago Giraldo in their quarterfinal match.
“I was happy with almost everything today,” Nadal said. “I was focused with my serves without mistakes. I lost very few points on my serve in the last set.”
Murray, the tournament’s No. 2 seed, beat American Alex Bogomolov Jr., 6-1, 6-2. Murray’s match took less than an hour. Murray will play Argentina’s David Nalbandian next.
“My goal is to finish world No. 3 and pick up some titles before the end of the year,” Murray said.

Spain’s David Ferrer won in three sets, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2, against Australian qualifier Matthew Ebden.
Mardy Fish made his way to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Ernests Gulbis of Latvia.
