Spain’s Davis Cup captain Albert Costa quit Spain’s team nine days after his top two singles players announced they wouldn’t be returning to next year’s Davis Cup action.

The former French Open champion led Spain to two Davis Cup titles in his three years. The second title was the one Rafael Nadal and David Ferrerer propelled to against Argentina in Seville on Dec. 4.

Costa stayed in the tennis community, moving to an overseer of the captains for the Spain’s Davis Cup, Fed Cup and 2012 Olympic teams. His first things to check of his new job list include finding his successor. Countrymen Alex Corretja and Carlos Moya have been “linked to the position.”

From Reuters:

Costa said: “After three fantastic years at the head of the Davis Cup team I take up this new challenge with enthusiasm, knowing that to face up to our future objectives we have an enormous tennis potential due to the quality of the sportspeople and coaches we have.”
