Gael Monfils Upset Juan Carlos Ferrero By In Five Sets At 2011 US Open
After Ferrero took the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7-5), Monfils bounced back, sweeping the next two sets, 7-5 and 7-6 (7-5), to momentarily seize control of the match. It didn’t last long, however, as Ferrero finished strong en route to the upset win.
Where the first three sets were back-and-forth, grueling battles, the fourth and fifth were all Ferrero, as he finished each with a 6-4 set win to take home victory. With the loss, Monfils is two-and-done at the US Open, while Ferrero moves forward and lives to fight another day.
