U.S. Open 2011: Caroline Wozniacki Survives Scare

It looked like she had it.

No. 15 Svetlana Kuznetsova was up a break in the second set. She had already put away the first set in a tiebreaker, a tiebreaker her opponent had lead 5-2.

She only needed eight points to top No. 1 seed Caroline Wozniacki to win her fourth-round match at the 2011 U.S. Open.

Wozniacki was two games away from elimination. Then Kuznetsova lost the second set and then it was 5-1 in the third, Wozniacki’s advantage.

A backhand volley winner from the No. 1 seed sealed the deal - 6-7, 7-5, 6-1.

After three hours and two minutes, it was final. Wozniacki would move on to the quarterfinals match against No. 10 seed Andrea Petkovic after winning 11 of the final 13 games.

Wozniacki’s 50 fewer unforced errors is likely what kept her in Arthur Ashe Stadium on Monday evening and in the final Grand Slam tournament of the year.
