Wednesday U.S. Open Day Session Canceled Due To Rainy Weather
After a lengthy delay, the U.S. Open’s official web site announced Wednesday evening that the tournament’s day session has been canceled due to weather after several hours worth of delays. Here’s the notice:
Tuesday’s delays had appeared to make for a supposedly action-packed Wednesday. So just imagine how great the next day of actual tennis is going to be! It’s expected to rain throughout the rest of the week as well, however, so this all might be adding up to form the greatest day of tennis ever once it’s all done with.

The 2011 U.S. Open is delayed due to rain once again, but there’s good news. This rain delay should be a pretty short one and shouldn’t cause any matches to be cancelled like yesterday’s day-long storm. There are expected to be other small patches of rain during the day, but this current storm is a small one and is expected to pass quickly.
Three men’s Round of 16 matches are currently underway, and the early results are a bit startling. Rafael Nadal is playing at Arthur Ashe Stadium and is in some trouble early, down 3-0, by one break to Gilles Muller of Luxembourg. Nadal is up 15-0 in the current game and will be serving when play resumes.

All of Tuesday’s matches were canceled in Flushing Meadows, meaning U.S. Open action Wednesday will be scrunched together, if the rain holds off. One benefit comes from this: a crazy amount of crazy good tennis.
American redemption story Donald Young was set to face fourth-seeded Andy Murray in Arthur Ashe stadium Tuesday morning in one of the more anticipated matchups of the tournament so far, but they’ve been bumped to the Grandstand over a double-header of Nadal and Djokovic trying to make the quarterfinals.
