Heineken Open 2012 Scores And Results: Defending Champion David Ferrer Into Quarters

Defending champion David Ferrer is only two rounds away from playing for his third Heineken Open title. Ferrer advanced into the quarterfinals in Auckland on Wednesday with a 6-4, 6-2 win against the Czech Republic’s Lukas Rosol. The top-seeded Spaniard took just 61 minutes before finding himself in the quarterfinal round where he’ll face Alejandro Falla.

Falla found his way into the quarterfinals after beating Italy's Potito Starace, 7-6 (3), 6-3.

“I played good today, no? He plays with great power and it’s good to start this way in the first match and to win in two sets,” Ferrer said.

Germany’s Philipp Kohlscreiber became the first player in the tournament to become a semifinalist. The tournament’s No. 8 seed, Kohlscreiber defeated No. 2 seed Nicolas Almagro, 7-6 (5), 6-4. Kohlschreiber, the winner of the tournament in 2008, will face the victor of the quarterfinal match between Benoit Paire and Olivier Rochus. Neither player is seeded.
