Dubai Championships 2012 Results Day 4: A Seeded Semifinal - Novak Djokovic, Andy Murray To Meet in Semifinals

For the last two years, Andy Murray has lost to Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open.

Lucky for Murray, this is the Dubai Championships.

But the No. 3-seeded Scot will face top tournament seed and world No. 1 Djokovic in the semifinal round.

Murray will be facing an opponent looking for his fourth straight Dubai title.

From the AP:

“I would like to get a chance to play him again,” Murray said. “Before the Indian Wells-Miami stretch it would be good to see exactly what I need to work on, where my game is. I had a great match with him in Australia, and hopefully I can reverse the result tomorrow.”

In his quarterfinal match, Murray faced No. 5-seeded Tomas Berdych. Despite losing their last three meetings, the Scot finally edged the first set and won 6-3, 7-5.

Djokovic didn’t have a smooth trip out of the quarterfinals either. He faced No. 7-seeded Janko Tipsarevic. Tipsarevic is more than a fellow Serb to Djokovic, he’s a friend.

Djokovic breezed through the first set 6-1, but the second set went to a tiebreaker, which Djokovic won 8-6 to complete a one-hour, 36-minute match.

“We know each other really well,” Djokovic said. “We both got a little bit nervous toward the end, I guess, and it was just luck to prevail.”

In the other half of the bracket, No. 2-seeded Roger Federer will take on No. 8-seeded Juan Del Potro.
