BNP Paribas Open 2012 Day 9 Results: Novak Djokovic Into Semis, Ana Ivanovic Upsets Marion Bartoli

And on the ninth day of the BNP Paribas Open, the tournament’s defending champion won again. Novak Djokovic is into the semifinals.

Djokovic, the No. 1 seed, beat No. 12 seed Nicolas Almagro, 6-3, 6-4, in an hour and 22 minutes. He recorded five aces and no double faults. Djokovic has now won 10 straight matches.

From the BNP Paribas Open:

“It’s definitely satisfying to play well,” said Djokovic. “This is something that we all want to do, and we all practice very hard each day in order to play as best as we can in the official matches. At this stage of the tournament it was important for me to stay mentally focused from the first to the last point.”

On the women’s side No. 15 Ana Ivanovic uprooted No. 7 seed Marion Bartoli, 6-3, 6-4. She is now in the semifinals. This area of the bracket isn’t new to Ivanovic; the Serbian won a title at Indian Wells in 2008. This is, however, her first semifinal of the 2012 season.
