Djokovic earned the victory in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1), but he had to work for it after converting just 56 percent of his first serves. However he did win 16 points on Ferrer’s second serve, broke the Spaniard four times, and won 77 points to Ferrer’s 57.
Djokovic moves on to face Argentinian Juan Monaco in the semifinals of the Sony Ericsson Open. Monaco earned his spot in the semis by upsetting Mardy Fish in an earlier quarterfinal.
