Sony Ericsson Open 2012: Novak Djokovic Advances To Finals By Defeating Juan Monaco In Straight Sets
Monaco was a surprising entrant into the semifinals, upsetting Mardy Fish to earn the right to face Djokovic. His underdog story came to an ignominious end, however, as he was defeated in straight sets by Djokovic, 6-0, 7-6 (5).
After being shut out entirely in the first set, Monaco made things interesting by drawing level with the defending champ at 5-5 in the second set, then going up 6-5 before the game ended in a fierce and lengthy tiebreak. Djokovic ultimately proved too much for the Argentinian and picked up the win to advance.
Djokovic will face Murray in the final match of the tournament Sunday.
