Wimbledon results 2017: Novak Djokovic wins; Venus Williams advances to semifinals
Novak Djokovic and Venus Williams both advanced at Wimbledon on Tuesday.

Tuesday was the day for the women’s quarterfinals, but a match between Rafael Nadal and Gilles Muller ran long on Monday, forcing Djokovic to play Tuesday. Nadal is no longer in the tournament, and Djokovic will face No. 11 Tomas Berdych on Wednesday.
Top seed Andy Murray will face the 24th seed, Sam Querrey, an American. Roger Federer, the third seed and favorite for Wimbledon, will take on the tough Milos Raonic, the sixth seed. Finally, Muller will move on to face No. 7 Marin Cilic on Wednesday.
In the first women’s quarterfinal, American Venus Williams made short work of Jelena Ostapenko, 6-3, 7-5. Ostapenko was the 13th seed at Wimbledon after winning the French Open as an unseeded player earlier in the year.
Williams, 37, continues to defy expectations and beat young, up-and-coming players, en route to yet another Wimbledon semifinals appearance. Williams has won five Wimbledon titles, with the last one coming in 2008.
That was also her last Grand Slam title. She made it to the finals of the Australian Open earlier this year but did not win.
Women’s seventh seed Svetlana Kuznetsova found herself eliminated after a straight-sets loss to Garbine Muguruza, the 14th seed and 2015 winner at Wimbledon. Prior to the quarterfinals, Muguruza eliminated top seed Angelique Kerber in the Round of 16.
At the time of writing, the other women’s quarterfinals matches still have yet to be played. Keep up with all the men’s singles action here and all the women’s singles action over here.
