13 best NCAA volleyball players in the transfer portal, so far

We’re one week into the 2025 NCAA volleyball tournament and just 16 teams remain. For many of the teams no longer competing, roster management season is upon them.

The transfer portal for volleyball players opened up on Sunday, and according to On3 more than 700 players have entered. Some of these players are extremely talented and have the ability to influence how the sport will shake out next season. Some will go on to play for existing contenders, while others could elevate programs seeking a breakthrough.

As of Wednesday, these are the best players available in the transfer portal so far.

Starck was a key contributor to the Nittany Lions’ national title-winning team in 2024, as she led the nation in assists as a freshman with 1,483. She was named Big Ten and AVCA National Freshman of the Year after a stellar debut campaign. However, Starck played in just four matches this season before stepping away from the team at Penn State to “prioritize” her “mental health,” according to an Instagram post she wrote in September. She remains one of the top setters in the country and could be a star of the sport wherever she lands next.

A 6-foot-2 rookie who was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year, Davis ranked ninth nationally this season in total kills with 521. In back-to-back matches against Utah and Arizona, she piled up a season-best 28 kills in each contest. With three years of eligibility remaining, the Texas native with high potential will be a prized target in the portal.

Davis isn’t the only talented Cougar entering the portal. A sophomore setter, Bower ranked seventh nationally in assists this season with 1,265. She also had 72 kills and 248 digs, earning her a spot on the All-Big 12 First Team.

The sophomore setter was 14th nationally in assists this season with 1,190 and she also contributed 45 kills. A North Carolina native, she was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team.

The junior outside hitter was 22nd nationally in kills this season with 497. She also had 34 aces and 197 digs, and earned a spot on the All-Big East First Team.

The First Team All-Big Ten selection had 402 kills this season and established herself as one of the top outside hitters in the conference. A 6-foot-1 junior, she led the Huskies with 3.65 kills per set.

A talented middle blocker, Humphrey was named to the All-SEC Freshman team after totaling 68 blocks and 75 kills in her lone season with the Volunteers. According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, she’s one of seven Tennessee players in the portal so far.

The 2024 SEC Freshman of the Year, Auguste piled up 291 kills, 27 aces, 46 digs and 15 solo blocks this season, in which she earned All-SEC First Team honors.

The co-Big East Freshman of the Year, Haggard totaled 88 kills, 997 assists and 257 digs in her rookie campaign. The setter from Kentucky helped Marquette advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, where it lost to Louisville.

Stucky appeared in 95 matches for the Gators over the past four seasons and enters the portal with one year of eligibility remaining. She was named to the All-SEC Second Team this season after totaling a career-best 73 kills, 1,062 assists, 22 aces, a career-best 249 digs, and 52 blocks. The versatile and veteran setter should be a solid addition to any team.

Named to the All-ACC Freshman Team, Mambu totaled 304 kills, 14 aces and 111 digs in her lone season with the Yellow Jackets.

An All-Big 12 Second Team selection as a junior outside hitter, Clinton had 351 kills, 22 aces and 235 digs this season across 26 matches.

A former top 15 recruit, Coleman enters the portal with three years of eligibility remaining after spending her rookie campaign at TCU. In 27 matches this season, she tallied 102 kills, 18 aces and 112 digs.
