There have been plenty of questions surounding the Washington Capitals training camp. What will hapen with Michael Nylander? What two goalies would start the season with the Capitals? It looks like some of those questions are being answered now. Capitals beat writer Tarik el Bashir reported that Michael Nylander was on the ice today and took the team picture...
Capitals Nylander and Varlamov Appear Ready to Start Season in Washington
Boudreau said on Sunday that he expected The Nylander Situation to be resolved by today. But he's on the ice now and took the team photo.
It's always unfortunate to see an injury decide a position battle but that might happen in Washington. There was a battle between Semyon Varlamov and Michal Nuevirth for the second goalie spot with the Capitals. It appears that injury will allow Varlamov to win that battle.
Michal Neuvirth has left the ice here at VC after about a half hour of practicing. Perhaps an injury has settled the goaltending battle.
It was an interesting battle to follow in training camp and Capitals fans should be encouraged by both players. We all know what we can expect from Varlamov after he exploded on the scene in the playoffs last season. We don’t know as much about Nuevirth but he was the AHL Playoff MVP. The Capitals will be set with goaltending for years to come.
