It’s been said that over the past few years, the Florida State-Miami rivalry has lost its luster. Actually, that’s been said about the entire ACC. But both teams have looked impressive tonight, and the quarterbacks, in particular, have been fantastic.
Ponder, Harris Make This Game Watchable
Jacory Harris is 10-15 for 177 yards and a touchdown so far for Miami. For Florida State, save for an interception late in the half, Christian Ponder has been just as good, hitting on 15 of 20, for 175 and a touchdown of his own. Credit the skill players or cite defensive weaknesses if you want, but the play of these quarterbacks has made this game highly entertaining.
And considering the recent history, here--numerous years of blighted openers that failed to live up to the hype in Monday night prime time--that’s a welcome respite from the sagging incompetence of games like this.
The ghost of Chris Rix is scoffing, but both of players look like legitimately good quarterbacks. And even though the rest of the ACC got de-pantsed this weekend (relatively speaking), amidst a field dominated by Tebows and Colts, the resurgent quarterback play bodes well for the conference strength, as well.
