UFC 108 Results - Rashad Evans Decisions Thiago Silva

It wasn’t pretty, but in the

108 main event Rashad Evans was able to win a unanimous decision over Thiago Silva.The first two rounds fell into a lather, rinse, repeat style pattern with Evans charging forward into a clinch and getting a double leg takedown. From there Silva was always able to stand up without taking damage only to get taken down again. It was clear that Evans won the first two rounds with nothing more than the takedowns.

Despite problems with his flight which led to him missing weight by a pound Paul Daley looked focused and ready as he knocked out Dustin Hazelett in a round.Early in the fight Hazelett threw some flashy head kicks which were blocked by Daley who was working a patient leg kick game. As Hazelett decided to try and throw his hands Daley, the much better striker, ducked and landed a hard counter hook that put Dustin down hard. Three punches to the downed “McLovin” later and Daley was having his hand raised while Dustin was being brought back to consciousness.

In a lightweight attraction Sam Stout wore down Joe Lauzon over three rounds to win a unanimous decision. Lauzon was a reasonably heavy favorite coming into the fight but Stout was a live dog with his solid striking game.In the first round Lauzon was able to get the fight to the ground and quickly looked to finish the fight with a deep kimura armlock. Stout was able to survive the submission attempt and although he was bleeding from a cut on the forehead he took over the fight at that point.

Working striking combinations that featured high to low attacks and solid takedown defense Stout wore down the durable Lauzon. In the third round Lauzon was able to get the fight to the ground one last time and get to mount. Rather than try and strike for a finish Joe risked going for a choke which Stout escaped and once again was able to start working his striking until the final bell.

Jim Miller spoiled the

return of Duane Ludwig by submitting him in the first round with an armbar. Ludwig, known for being one of the better strikers at 155 pounds, was beaten to the punch all fight by Miller. Eventually Miller was able to catch Duane off balance with a right hand which put him on his back. Miller quickly moved to mount and secured an armbar in the ensuing scramble.

In the second featured bout on Spike TV Martin Kampmann was able to rebound from his loss to Paul Daley with a submission win over Jacob Volkmann. Kampmann got hurt twice in the stand-up by Volkmann’s wide punches but ended both of those exchanges by dropping the former All-American wrestler.The second time Volkmann was dropped Kampmann followed him to the floor where he landed several heavy shots. As Jacob attempted to scramble to his feet Kampmann was able to lock in a deep guillotine and force the submission.

It was good to see Kampmann get his career going back in the right direction with a win but he has got to get better with his stand-up defense going forward.

This was a very good win for Cole who had to work through getting badly hurt before getting a great submission win.
