It once seemed a given that Raiders head coach Tom Cable would lose his job. After all, the team had already set to work on looking for his replacement.
Report: Tom Cable To Remain As Raiders Head Coach After All
Adam Schefter, though, has just issued a contrary report:
After weeks of speculation and deliberation, Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis has decided to retain Tom Cable as head coach for the 2010 season, a source close to the situation told ESPN on Saturday.
Cable will fulfill the final year of his contract with the Raiders, the source said.
When contacted, Raiders spokesman John Herrera did not confirm that Cable would remain coach for the 2010 season, saying only that, despite meetings into the night the past two days, no decision has been reached.
So for now, Schefter has heard conflicting rumors. Al Davis reportedly wants him to stay, but the team’s spokesman denies that a decision has been reached. When we learn more definitive information, we’ll let you know.
And if Cable is indeed staying put, it’s quite a surprise.
Reactions from our Raiders blog are sure to come soon, so check back with Silver and Black Pride.
