Following Saturday's 28-17 loss to Purdue, rumors began to swirl that Tim Brewster was on his way out as head coach of the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team. Sunday, Dennis Brackin of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported that the University of Minnesota has officially fired head football coach Tim Brewster, effective immediately.
Minnesota Fires Tim Brewster After 1-6 Start
University of Minnesota Athletic Director Joel Maturi said Sunday afternoon that he fired football coach Tim Brewster during a meeting between the two Sunday morning.
Co-offensive coordinator Jeff Horton will take over the head coaching duties for the season's final five regular-season games.
In his 3+ seasons with Minnesota, Brewster compiled a record of 15-30 overall and 6-21 in the Big Ten. He also never defeated Wisconsin, Minnesota’s chief rival.
Brewster signed a contract extension in January will receive a buyout of approximately $600,000.
