The San Francisco 49ers were officially eliminated from playoff contention Sunday after losing 25-17 to the Rams and falling to 5-10 overall. With one game remaining on the season, most seem to think that's the only game left in Mike Singletary's term as head coach of the team.
49ers’ Remain Undecided On Mike Singletary’s Future As Head Coach
The way Team President and CEO Jed York, Singletary might not even stick around that long. Depends on how you read his comments after Sunday’s loss.
We want to take our time before we make any decision like that. You don’t want to make an emotional decision right now after the game. Obviously, we didn’t achieve the things the things we set out to achieve. We should be a playoff team. We aren’t a playoff team this year. I’m very disappointed about that. We need to figure out how we can get into the playoffs and how we can start to be a Super Bowl team again.
The 49ers will finish with a losing record for the seventh time in eight years. The only year that wasn’t a losing season was Singletary’s first full one with the team, which finished 8-8. Singletary has two years remaining on his contract but as York put, “money is no object” in the team Niners’ quest to become a Super Bowl team again.
Niners Nation will have their eye close on this story as it develops.
