Here I must disagree with Eric Freeman: the NBA's version of H.O.R.S.E. was not an "abject failure." It certainly wasn't the exhibition of creativity and athleticism that a great game of H.O.R.S.E. can be, but it didn't disappoint in its conclusion.
Maybe that's because eventual champion Kevin Durant and Rajon Rondo just kept making threes -- they combined to go 20 of 24 in the impromptu shootout. Maybe it's because I like a nice, smooth three-pointer. Maybe it's because it didn't have much to compete against. Maybe it's because Durant said, "It felt like Game Seven in the playoffs," giving you an idea of how seriously he was taking it. Maybe it's because Charles Barkley got to do a pale imitation of what he probably does at a craps table. But H.O.R.S.E. worked for me.
I just hope it works better in the future.
