Weekend Wake Up: Brief Vinsanity, Skeleton Rocks, Jamison’s Slow Start, Miller Time Again
Hey, Mr. Carter! Sure, the Dallas Mavericks held the Orlando Magic to 30 points combined in the second and fourth quarters in their 95-85 win on Friday night. But the Magic have Vince Carter, and he had this sweet dunk that briefly brought back memories of the Vinsanity of yore. Win the battle, lose the war, I guess.
Teeth-Rattling Fun. Friday night shouldn’t be so dramatic at the Winter Olympics. But Canada’s Jon Montgomery hanging on to gold in men’s skeleton by 0.07 seconds, winning a duel with Latvian Martins Dukurs, may have been the highest drama in Vancouver so far. Check NBC’s photos -- incredibly, there is no video yet -- and see if you don’t agree.
Sour Jamison. Antawn Jamison probably didn’t envision starting his time in a Cavaliers uniform with an 0-for-12 performance in a 17-point loss to the Charlotte Bobcats. That’s okay, writes Ryan Fagan, because there is plenty of time to fold him into Cleveland’s offense, and the Cavs can handle a few bumps in the road.
Bode’s Well. The much-maligned skier of 2006 is apparently not the Bode Miller of 2010. Miller claimed silver in the men’s super G on Friday -- Norway’s Aksel Lund Svindal blistered the track for gold, and American Andrew Weibrecht garnered bronze -- to become the most decorated alpine skier in U.S. Olympic history. Vancouver has been a far cry from Miller’s troubled time in Turin, and the relevance of Friday’s date for Miller might have something to do with it: his daughter turned two yesterday.
