The mother of Canadian figure skating champion Joannie Rochette died overnight in a Vancouver hospital, according to multiple reports. Thérèse Rochette was 55.
Rochette and her family arrived in Vancouver on Saturday morning, ahead of this week’s women’s figure skating competition. Thérèse Rochette was taken to a hospital early Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack.
Canadian Olympic officials have indicated that Joannie Rochette intends to compete in these Games. The women’s short program takes place on Tuesday. Rochette is considered a medal contender.
