Khalil Greene Suffering From Crippling Social Anxiety, May Miss Significant Time

Khalil Greene, the once-promising San Diego shortstop coming off a pair of miserable seasons, was hoping to get a fresh start on his career by signing with Texas. However, the anxiety issues that plagued him a year ago have returned, and now there's no telling when - or if - he'll come back.

Infielder Khalil Greene is again suffering from anxiety issues, leaving the Texas Rangers short an infielder as they begin spring training.

Greene, 30, will not report with the rest of the team’s position players Tuesday and could miss significant time, according to major-league sources.

There's no word yet on how the Rangers are going to deal with the matter, but Evan Grant suggests they could move to void Greene's contract or place him on the restricted list. In the meantime, Texas now needs to choose a new backup infielder. While they could opt to go outside the organization, the internal favorites are Joaquin Arias and Esteban German, with Arias getting the edge on account of both his ability to play shortstop and his being on the 40-man roster.
