As first reported by Evan Grant, the Texas Rangers have voided the one-year, $0.75m contract they gave to shortstop Khalil Greene. Greene has recently suffered from a recurrence of his social anxiety issues, and as such he has been unable to report to camp and join the team.

Says GM Jon Daniels:
“We signed Khalil to help the club. He’s not able to do that right now. This was the cleanest way to address the contract situation. It doesn’t preclude us from staying in touch, which we’ll do. The priority is getting him well, and if he’s ready to join us later on we’ll address that then.”
Joaquin Arias, who is the favorite to take over Greene’s role, hit only .266 with a .630 OPS in AAA last season, but the year before was more of a success as he split time between AAA and the Majors. He is capable of manning every position in the infield, although shoulder surgery a few years back has taken its toll on what was previously a very strong arm.
