That is MSNBC getting pranked by a caller purporting to be U.S. men’s hockey goalie Ryan Miller (who sounds like this, for the record), and adding to an already ignominious week for the people who screen callers for cable channels.
Fake Ryan Miller Guarantees Gold on MSNBC, Real One Just Wants to Play
The fake Miller didn’t totally besmirch Miller’s good name in his comments. But he did call Canada and Russia overrated, almost guarantee a gold medal, and sound a little bit like The Situation. Fortunately, MSNBC figured things out, got the real Miller on the phone, and issued an on-air apology to him.
Miller managed to make the best of the hoax, though, coming came across as cool and classy. “I appreciate a good prank,” he said, adding “I don’t make predictions. I like to play the games.” When the U.S. plays Canada for gold on Sunday, he’ll get a chance to play the biggest game of his life.
