Weekend Wake Up: Nate and ‘Bron Put On a Show, Danica Debuts, Sonnen Dominates

The Nate-‘Bron Show. There really isn’t a lot to watch in Cavs-Knicks games but for the occasional brilliant play from a Knick and LeBron’s point total. Saturday night had both: Above is Nate Robinson blocking Shaq, and below the fold is a video of LeBron scoring 24 straight points for the Cavs over the first and second quarters on his way to 47 for the night. Oh, and the Cavs won. That’s the important part, right?

Danica’s Good Turn. Danica Patrick’s stock car debut in an ARCA race went well. She finished sixth. But it’s the way she got there -- saving herself from a crash after going into the grass, and fighting back from being relegated to 24th more than halfway through the 80-lap race -- that impressed. “You drove the wheels off that thing, girl,” said no less a NASCAR authority than her car co-owner Rick Hendrick. One wonders how long it will be until someone is telling her that as she clambers out of a car in Victory Lane. Despite growth struggles, NASCAR is much more lucrative than IndyCar, and Patrick joining the series full-time would be a marketing and PR coup.

Sonnen Stops Marquardt. I’m still no one’s idea of an authority on UFC, but I know enough to go to The Rumble when things go down, like Saturday night’s UFC 109. Bryan Henderson explains why Chael Sonnen’s win was the big takeaway, and why that’s a bit of an annoyance.
