In the evening’s main event former champion Urijah Faber had no answer to Jose Aldo in any area. Aldo dominated the fight using a steady volume of leg kicks and by the second round it was clear that Faber was having trouble even standing. Aldo continued throughout the fight to switch between attacks to the body and leg to confuse Faber.
WEC 48 Results: Jose Aldo Dominates Urijah Faber To Retain Featherweight Title
Starting late in the third round Faber was dropped every time Aldo landed a kick to the thigh. This pattern continued into the fourth round where after Faber was knocked down Aldo went to the ground and put him in a crucifix where he landed a barrage of punches and elbows. The referee chose to allow Faber to continue into the fifth and final round which was the slowest in terms of activity but still one controlled by Aldo.
The final scorecards were 49-45, 49-45 and 50-45. Faber was barely able to stand during the post-fight interviews and was being held up by his coaches.
It was a dominant display by Jose Aldo against one of the best fighters in the history of featherweight MMA and should cement his place as one of the top pound-for-pound fighters in the world.
