Football Outsiders has a handy injury database and tracked the history of torn patellar tendons to determine when Broncos LT Ryan Clady might return.
History Says Broncos LT Ryan Clady Has A Tough Road Back
Their results show that no player in NFL history has missed less than six months with a torn patellar tendon. In fact, only one player with a torn patellar tendon hasn’t missed the entire season.
Now, Clady’s is only partially torn, which is why some folks are saying the injury will only last 3-4 months.
But the findings do indicate how tough of a road Clady has in coming back by week one.
The three month window he’s reportedly been telling people this injury will cost him would bring him up to August, which is the start of training camp. Six months would keep him out until November, so obviously there’s a big difference there.
Even with the tendon only partially torn, Clady’s no lock for week one in September.
