The Numbers: Can Philly Fit Dan Hamhuis In The Fold?
If they resigned Hamhuis -- who could go for anything from $3 -$4.5 million in cap space, that's about $18 - $19 million invested in their top-four defenseman. They'd still have to fill out their blueline by signing a guy or two, and their 11 signed forwards already take up $32.4 million in cap space.
So let's assume the Flyers signed Hamhuis and have $19 million tied up in their top-four defensemen. Then they have to make room for two players, so let's take that to, say $20.5 million. That's 17 players of combined forward and defense for $53 million. Brian Boucher makes 0.5 million, so that brings the total up to 18 players for $53.5 million.
