Steve Smith, Agent Reportedly Try To Keep Quiet Details Of Injury

ESPN’s Adam Schefter initially reported that Panthers WR Steve Smith broke his left arm playing flag football at his football camp this weekend.

That’s partially true, Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reports.

While Schefter characterizes the injury as having occurred at Smith’s “football camp,” we’re told that it actually happened in the championship game of an adult flag football league in which Smith and other NFL players had participated for the entire duration of the league’s season.

Two other Panthers took part, according to the report.

Schefter cited Smith’s agent, Derrick Fox, as the source of his information. Fox indicating that the injury took place at his football camp -- and not an adult flag football league -- meshes with another nugget from PFT: Smith gathered his flag football teammates and “urged” them not to say anything about the broken arm.

It’s possible the reason for Smith and his agent want to keep it quiet is that playing in a non-team sanctioned flag football game could violate portions of his contract. If that’s the case, I’m sure we’ll be hearing more about this.
