Joel Zumaya Has A Fractured Elbow; Will Miss Rest Of 2010
If anyone thought that Joel Zumaya might’ve torn an elbow ligament on Monday night, you can put those concerns to rest. However, that doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods. Quite the opposite:

After witnessing the horrible pain suffered by Joel Zumaya on Monday night, it was clear that he wasn’t going to be pitching for awhile. The Tigers took the first step in confirming this on Tuesday, placing him on the 15-day DL. His pitching elbow is likely seriously injured, so expect Zumaya to go on the 60-day DL at some point.
Detroit called up right-hander Casey Fien from Tiple-A Toledo to take Zumaya’s spot in the bullpen.

Zumaya has been plagued with injuries before, but never to his elbow. If this is serious - and all indications are that it is - it will deal a big blow to the Tigers’ playoff chances, and a bigger blow to Zumaya’s career, which finally seemed back on track.
