Joel Zumaya Has A Fractured Elbow; Will Miss Rest Of 2010

If anyone thought that Joel Zumaya might’ve torn an elbow ligament on Monday night, you can put those concerns to rest. However, that doesn’t mean he’s out of the woods. Quite the opposite:

Zumaya has a non-displaced fracture of olecranon (tip of elbow) and he will be sidelined for the remainder of the season. #mlb

A few notes from SB Nation Detroit on Zumaya’s injury:

[Phil] Coke also said that watching Zumaya's injury was the third time he has seen somebody's elbow explode.

Tigers catcher Gerald Laird was asked about Joel Zumaya during an interview after the conclusion of tonight’s game and said that he heard a pop when Zumaya got hurt.

This isn’t quite like when Jay Powell or Tony Saunders broke their arms while pitching, but it’s still extraordinarily unfortunate, and the hope now is that Zumaya can bounce back yet again to get his career on track in 2011.
