Joel Zumaya Placed On 15-Day DL, Will Have Elbow Exam Today

After witnessing the horrible pain suffered by Joel Zumaya on Monday night, it was clear that he wasn’t going to be pitching for awhile. The Tigers took the first step in confirming this on Tuesday, placing him on the 15-day DL. His pitching elbow is likely seriously injured, so expect Zumaya to go on the 60-day DL at some point.

Detroit called up right-hander Casey Fien from Tiple-A Toledo to take Zumaya’s spot in the bullpen.

Zumaya is scheduled to have an exam on the injured elbow at some point Tuesday. We’ll have any results from that posted here as soon as they’re available.
