MLB Draft Deadline: Only Three First Round Selections Go Unsigned

So now that that final flurry of activity is behind us, the smoke is beginning to clear, and we can get a better view on how things shook out. The big stories, naturally, were the Nationals locking up Bryce Harper, and the Dodgers convincing Zach Lee to drop football. Also worth noting is that, while 17 of the 32 first round picks were unsigned coming into the day, only three remained unsigned throughout. Those players:

6. Barret Loux, Diamondbacks

9. Karsten Whitson, Padres

14. Dylan Covey, Brewers

As compensation, the Diamondbacks will get the seventh pick in next year’s draft, while the Padres will get the 11th and the Brewers will get the 17th.
