This, of course, comes as no surprise to anyone who saw last night’s home plate collision, but Indians catcher Carlos Santana is going on the DL:
That sprain is still an initial diagnosis, as the results of his MRI are not yet known. What’s important is that (1) Santana will get at least a bit of a break, and (2) it seems, by some miracle, he managed to avoid a severe injury.

According to Paul Hoynes, Carlos Santana is scheduled for an MRI examination on Tuesday, presumably after swelling goes down a little bit. But there is good news:

Will Carroll believes that the leg is probably broken at the very least, and while we don’t have any word on the extent of the injury just yet, it’s safe to say that Santana’s breakthrough 2010 season has probably come to a premature close. If that’s the case, he will finish with a .260 average and an OPS close to .900.
