An opening kickoff returned for a score by Antonio Brown was enough scoring to last the Steelers’ until the game’s final minute, though Jeff Reed tacked on four field goals throughout.
Week 2 NFL Scores And Results: Dixon-less Steelers Force Seven Turnovers To Win 19-11; Titans Bench Young
Dennis Dixon was sidelined with a left knee injury early on, calling to mind his previous ACL issues. Charlie Batch took over and struggled at receiving snaps from rookie center Maurkice Pouncey, botching at least three exchanges.
Jeff Fisher benched Vince Young after the quarterback’s third turnover. Kerry Collins took over for his first action since the middle of last year. Collins threw a pick of his own and lost a fumble, but drove for Tennessee’s only touchdown and a two-point conversion.
After an onside kick recovery, the Titans drove to the Steelers’ 41 as time ran out.
Pittsburgh’s defense tallied four sacks, four fumble recoveries, and three interceptions. They also forced three other fumbles throughout.
